Solid cover with a narrow water channel. Water clings and enters; debris falls off. Works on 6" gutters with moderate debris. Gutter Helmet classic, Englert LeafGuard. $15-$22/lf.
Aluminum screens (budget)
Perforated aluminum mesh. Cheaper, works for large leaves. Clogs fast under pine and shingle grit. $8-$14/lf.
Foam inserts (avoid)
Foam snake that fills the gutter channel. Cheap, clogs within one year, mold risk. We don't recommend, but can install if you insist. $6-$10/lf.

No. Even the best micromesh requires a brush or rinse once a year — debris sits on top of the mesh. Good news: that rinse is a 10-minute job, not an hour of hand-bagging. And downspouts should still be flow-tested annually.
Some shingle manufacturers (GAF, Owens Corning) have language about attaching things under the first course of shingles. We install guards with clips that ride on the gutter lip without going under shingles, which keeps the roof warranty intact. If you're worried, we'll show you the install method before we start.
Honest answer: if your current gutters are properly pitched, seam-sealed, and well-hung, adding micromesh can extend their life by reducing clog-related overflow. If they're sagging or leaking, guards won't fix that — replace first. We'll tell you which camp you're in at the free estimate.
Guards themselves aren't usually covered. But the underlying gutter replacement from ice damage often is, and we can include guards as an upgrade at time of replacement. Your adjuster approves the basic like-kind replacement; you pay the guard upgrade out of pocket.
