Copper is a long game. Installed right — soldered seams, heavy-gauge bronze hangers, proper pitch — a copper gutter system lasts 60+ years and develops the green verdigris patina that's the visual signature of Tudor, Colonial, and Victorian homes.

Installed wrong — riveted seams, aluminum hangers, sectional pieces caulked together — copper fails in 10 years, usually at the mechanical joints. Once it starts leaking, the patina runs and stains your trim.

Tony runs every copper job we do. 14 years forming and soldering copper on Long Island. He handles both half-round (period-correct on older homes) and K-style. All copper installs are by-quote — we walk the roof, talk through the patina timeline, and price the project honestly.

Copper Gutters & Half-Round Installation

What’s included

Here’s exactly what we do on every copper gutter job.

16oz cold-rolled copper

Standard residential copper. 20oz available for commercial or exposed long runs. Mill-finish or pre-patinated options.

True half-round or K-style

Half-round is period-correct on Tudors, Colonials, and Victorians. K-style is acceptable on modern transitional homes.

Soldered seams, not riveted

Every corner, every outlet, hand-soldered with lead-free silver solder. This is the joint that determines 10 vs 60 year life.

Bronze or copper hangers

No aluminum — aluminum corrodes galvanically with copper. All hangers are bronze or copper, screwed into solid wood.

Copper downspouts + outlets

Round copper downspouts to match half-round; rectangular for K-style. Bronze straps, copper elbows.

Period-correct accessories

Copper leader heads (scupper boxes), decorative straps, copper splash blocks or tied into underground drains.

Our process

Four steps, written on the quote.

Copper Gutters & Half-Round Installation process

Site visit + style consultation

2

Detailed written quote

Line-item pricing: linear feet, corners, downspouts, outlets, leader heads, disposal of existing. 2-page quote, not a scribbled number.

3

Form + solder on-site

Half-round sections are joined in our shop, corners soldered on-site. K-style is formed on our seamless machine, corners soldered. Full install is 1-2 days.

4

Patina conversation

Copper turns bright orange → brown → brown-black → green verdigris over 8-15 years. We'll show you reference photos so you know what to expect.

Materials & options

Here’s the honest rundown of your options.

Half-round copper (classic)

Half-round copper (classic)

True U-profile. Period-correct on Tudor, Colonial, Victorian, Dutch Colonial. Self-cleans better than K-style. $35-$50/lf installed.

K-style copper

K-style copper

Ogee profile, higher water capacity, works on transitional/modern homes that want copper's look without the half-round commitment. $28-$42/lf.

Pre-patinated copper

Pre-patinated copper

Factory-aged green patina — installed looking like a 15-year-old system. Premium upgrade (+25-35%).

Bronze hardware

Bronze hardware

Hangers, straps, brackets. All bronze. Aluminum hardware with copper gutters fails in 5-8 years due to galvanic corrosion.

Copper downspouts

Copper downspouts

Copper leader heads

Common questions

Before you schedule, here’s what homeowners ask.

Still wondering about something? Call (516) 529-6634and we’ll walk you through it.

(516) 529-6634
Three reasons: raw material cost (copper coil is 8-10x the price of aluminum coil per pound), labor (every seam is hand-soldered, not caulked — a 150-lf copper job is 2 days vs 1 for aluminum), and specialty skill (good copper work requires a tradesman who can solder — that's a smaller labor pool).
Yes — we carry copper downspouts, copper elbows, copper straps, copper drip edge, and copper apron flashing. Everything in the water path should be copper to avoid galvanic corrosion. We can also tie into existing copper flashing if your roof already has it.
Bright new copper → salmon/brown (months 3-12) → chocolate brown (years 2-4) → dark brown/black (years 4-8) → green verdigris (years 8-15+). Long Island's salt air accelerates this slightly vs inland climates.
Yes, we do partial copper installs — often over entry porches, bay windows, or front elevations only. Aluminum on the back, copper out front. Just be aware the copper will patina on its own schedule while the aluminum stays the same color.
Same cleaning schedule as aluminum — twice a year. Avoid pressure-washing (can strip patina). Don't clean with anything abrasive. Otherwise, copper is actually lower-maintenance over its life because the seams never fail if soldered right.
Yes — historic building restorations, municipal buildings, churches. Typically 20oz copper for commercial, with decorative detail work on leader heads and scupper boxes. Quote by the project.
